Independent Practice Week4:Space Pirate Shipe Scenes

Having my space pirate ship chosen i decided next to sketch up a few scenes for the spaceship to be placed within and the most common would be the spaceship crashed within a cave, in space and docked.
For the in space piece of concept i drew the usual things that would be expected in space such as planets, asteroids and a spacecraft.

But the main thing thought you would see in a space scene would be lighting and stars. Feeling that doing this would take up much of my time i left the sketched scene to showing the major factors to form the scene. I see that this scene will be limited in the amount of detail that will be shown as i don't want too much gone into the scene but enough detail to show what is in the scene.

This is the research i did towards the setting of my crash site and i know what your thinking, "not much of research" but i looked at as I'm researching jungles and what comes across is the vast amounts of greenery from trees, bushes, grass, roots and the rivers. So taking from this research is what you see in the images the shades of green covering the areas of the images and that is exactly what i will use, i will use the greenery to my advantage and cover the mountain setting. Using the images as a backdrop, i will try to show the jungle through the colours and in the images there isn't much of a range of colours but rather shades of the few colours and that is shown through the perspective when you look further into the background of the image you see how it starts to fade and the shade of the colours starts to also fade into the sky.

The first sketch that i had done was an overview of the crash site of the spaceship, by doing this i set my mind on the surroundings which help to form the cave itself. With the overview of the cave it doesn't seem like there is much detail but i see detail being added through the shading and colouring. I wanted the overview to be a mysterious jungle setting with the mountains as a backdrop to the vast amounts of greenery and to have the overview look unexplored.

The second of the two sketches has gone into a little more amounts of detail but again not enough to show through a quick sketch, but enough to showcase what the scene is trying to get across. The scene is showing the crash site of the spacecraft, how the cave forms around the spacecraft but with this scene i see lighting playing a factor because the lighting helps to form the shading of the rocks and allow distance to be shown. I wanted the crash site to be placed within a cave, going back to the setting of the 'Fountain of Youth' from the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise the fountain was placed in a cave which forms around the fountain and gives the fountain that focal point because the cave walls surrounding the fountain. This is what i wanted to get across to the viewer with the scene being within a cave because it gives the object that sense of importance and as soon as you see it you immediately get drawn to the centre.

The final scene that i had done is one which i am looking forward to further developing with colours as their is alot more detail and gives me a guideline to work with, where as the others were very open. What the scene is trying to get across is my spacecraft docked on a space station being fueled, repaired and looked at. I created much more of a unique design for the space station which allowed me to introduce a more detailed setting than previous sketches, which also gave the overall scene that sense of realism as the spacecraft fit.

I saw the space station being shown through only a portion of its overall representation because i didn't want the space station to take away from the overall image of the spaceship being docked. Although the image look very basic with much more detail showing what the image is about i hope to achieve more of a notoriety of what is being shown through the colours as they help to represent the texture, mood and individualisation of key areas of the image.
